Marrying Torah and Tefillah Course and Workshop with Rabbi Avraham Sutton
Marrying Torah and Tefillah Course and Workshop
with Rabbi Avraham Sutton
From King David to Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, the great sages of our tradition have transformed Torah into Tefillah, and in the process married and welded them together into an inseparable unity. In this course we will study this vast treasury of prayers with an eye to deepening and creating our own. As we get good at marrying Torah and Tefillah, we will concentrate on specific prayers in the Psalms, in the Siddur, and in the Machzorim, and based on these, use our intuition and creative energy to craft prayers in our own words. We will study specific sections of the Siddur, identifying the concepts contained in each passage in order to restate those passages in our own words. Each participant will be asked to submit their work in writing. Rabbi Sutton will then incorporate as many as possible into his translation of (and commentary on) the Breslov Siddur under the title “Likutey Tefillot.” Credit will be given to all contributors.
